About our approach:
How does it work?
The same technology that allows employees of big companies to work away from the office by “tele-commuting” allows a small business to hire a professional accountant literally “by the hour”. Besides several desktop accounting packages, online accounting services, such as Quickbooks Online, are safe and allow several access/input points simultaneously.
Why does it work?
To us, clients are like “projects” – as special project accountants, we can work for several clients each and every single day, or just a few times a week. You are billed only for the hours we actually spend on your account.
What are the advantages?
About our firm:
Background
Since 2001, my firm has been providing quality, personalized financial guidance to local individuals and businesses. Our clients include consulting services, construction companies, artists, automotive services, and clothing manufacturers. Some of our clients come to us in the very start-up stages of their business and some when they felt they outgrew their current record keeping method. Once in a while we are called to “fix the past”, i.e. recreating months, even years, of accounting because the company relied on an office-do-it-all who was either overburdened or under-skilled. One of our clients fell victim to an overly “creative” office “wunderkind” and was suddenly faced with vendors canceling service due to unpaid bills, never-filed payroll taxes, and thousands of dollars lost to fraud.
Our Mission
Our mission is to help clients maintain financial viability in the present while taking a proactive approach to achieve future goals. This requires open communication to reach an understanding of our clients’ needs, thorough research, and sound analysis. Our firm is dedicated to meeting these goals with high standards of excellence and professionalism.
I have been an accountant for over twenty years and I hold a degree in Risk Management from a German College of Commerce as well as a degree in Accounting from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. I worked for Radio Bremen Television Studios in Germany, Florida Public Broadcasting, a Mexican/American seafood wholesaler, a multi-continental aggregate company, and the Port of San Diego. My tasks included special projects accounting, financial statement and management report preparation, cost-to-budget analyses, forecasting, budget development, variance analyses. I enjoyed my work and most of all, I enjoyed challenges. However, I never enjoyed the hours on the freeway commuting to and from work during rush hours. Nor the long hours of overtime during the month-end closing-the-books process. After 9/11 I adjusted my thinking – and my priorities, and I started my own business, Itcounts. My mission, as outlined above, is to provide the same quality service to the smaller businesses in the San Diego area. There is no reason why a small business entrepreneur should worry about sitting in an IRS office with a shoebox of receipts on his or her lap…
